I’ve been going back and forth for a few weeks as to if I want to get a real Christmas tree this year or stick to our artificial one that we’ve had in years past. Last year I flocked our tree with snow flock I found on amazon and I absolutely loved how it turned out. Unfortunately the flock didn’t stick during the storage process so I would have had to reflock the whole thing. It’s not a hard process but takes a couple hours and with two small children it can be a little bit of an undertaking.
PS. The flocking is supposed to stay on the tree even when it’s stored so either I did it wrong or the company lied.🙃

So this year we decided to go with a real Christmas tree. I had real trees growing up and have so many fond memories of picking them out and bringing them home. I’ve always wanted those memories for my own family and thought this would be the perfect year to start the tradition of picking out a tree, chopping it down, and bringing it home to enjoy. And I’m so glad we did. (Ask me that after 4 weeks of vacuuming needles and keeping my dog & toddler out of the tree and my answer may be different.)
We ended up finding a tree farm near our house and going there. It’s so funny trying to pick out a tree when you’re so used to the symmetric artificial trees and all their perfection. If you’re a real tree person you’ll know that a lot of the trees are in fact the opposite of symmetrical and are quite frumpy. Nether the less, we had so much fun walking around and searching for the “perfect” tree. Eden had a blast being pulled around on the tree sled and just loved the little Eden sized “tweeees”. We made so many new memories watching Eden run around and Papa bringing out his inner lumberjack (note his plaid shirt😉) while cutting down our first real tree!
We may have ended up with a somewhat frumpy tree that is almost as wide as it is tall, but we had such a blast picking it out! My house smells like Christmas, the lights are strung, the fireplace is lit, and all is well with the world. I’ll update you in a month as to if I feel the same way but as of today I would love to make this a tradition that we do every year!
